Why We Love Franklin Massachusetts

So many cool things about this town and plenty of history! The Town of Franklin is a city located in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. Founded in 1660 as the western section of the town of Wrentham, it later broke off to become its own town in 1778 when it got its name “Franklin” to pay homage to the great statesman Benjamin Franklin. Franklin, Massachusetts was the first municipality in the country to be named after him. Franklin also boasts to being the birthplace of Horace Mann, the father of American public education. Franklin is also home to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, built by Matthew Sullivan and located in the center of Franklin, which is the number 1 largest Catholic parish in the Boston area with over 15,000 members. The Franklin Public Library is considered to be the first public library in the U.S., with approximately 116 original books in it given by Benjamin Franklin himself. Franklin’s little Red Brick School is said to be the longest operating “one room” school in the entire country, functional from 1792 all the way up to 2008.
